When we eat at halal-certified restaurants, we often see warnings that prohibit us from bringing food and drinks from outside. The reason for bringing food and drink from outside was made not solely so that customers only buy from the restaurant. But, more than that, it turns out that this is a halal guarantee from restaurants that are halal certified. Unfortunately, there are still many people who do not know about this and do not heed the warning. So, to add to the education of Halal personnel about the reasons why halal restaurants prohibit bringing food and drinks from outside, let’s look at the following article!

Reasons for Halal Restaurants to Forbid Bringing Food and Drinks from Outside

Many restaurants that have been certified halal include a prohibition on bringing in food and drink from outside. This is done in anticipation of non-halal food being brought into the restaurant. This prohibition is also a restaurant’s commitment to obtaining a halal certificate.

In addition, getting a halal certificate for a restaurant is also not easy. Restaurants that wish to obtain a halal certificate must go through various procedures and need to meet the 5 criteria for a halal product assurance system set by BPJPH. There are many aspects that must be seriously considered so that restaurants can get their hands on it. Restaurants must ensure that all raw materials used are halal and registered in halal certification. When there are raw materials that do not pass the halal criteria, the restaurant must replace these ingredients.

Therefore, the reason for bringing food and drinks from outside the restaurant is something that must be upheld by restaurants and visitors to maintain halal commitments. Restaurants that already have halal certificates and apply SJPH must have procedures related to visitor rules & employee rules. With this visitor regulation procedure, it is useful to ensure that visitors do not consume products from outside that do not have a clear halal status in halal-certified restaurants. Likewise with the employee regulation procedure, this procedure is useful for ensuring that employees do not bring in products from outside that do not have a clear halal status and use equipment in restaurants that have the potential to contaminate facilities at halal-certified restaurants.

Important Points in maintaining Restaurant Halal status

There are several important points in halal certification in every restaurant, including:

  1. The restaurant must have a halal commitment from top management and staff. This is important to do to ensure consistency in the implementation of the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH).
  2. Continuous training, evaluation and improvement. So that there is an increase in the quality of the implementation of the halal product guarantee system.
  3. Ensuring that the names of all menus comply with the certification provisions, such as not being related to things that are forbidden, for example the names of alcoholic beverages and/or illegal foods.
  4. Ensuring that the material is halal with adequate documents and has been registered in the list of halal ingredients.
  5. Ensuring product facilities are free from unclean contamination, such as not being contaminated with unclear food or drinks, and not being contaminated with feces from pets.

So, now that Halal personnel know, why are we advised not to bring food and drinks from outside to halal-certified restaurants? Hopefully after knowing this, Halal personnel will care more and no longer bring food and drinks from outside.
